The fourth book in the Rosa Reed Mystery series, Murder on Location, takes place on a movie shoot in the early days of Hollywood. This is another co-write with my good friend Denise Jaden who happens to work as an extra in many popular shows filmed in Vancouver, including Where Calls the Heart. Denise often tells "tales on the set" in her newsletter, so if you find that interesting be sure to sign up for her newsletter.
Murder on Location was a fun project. In it we see Rosa and her cousin Gloria connecting as friends as they work as extras on a movie being filmed in fictional Santa Bonita. Rosa's English propriety is challenged when she's given a revealing saloon girl's costume to wear and her embarrassment heightened when her former flame, Miguel Belmonte, shows up on the scene.
It didn’t matter the seriousness of the situation. Seeing Miguel always made Rosa’s heart race: The way his suit fit his athletic form with a crisp white shirt and narrow black tie. How his fedora sat on the crown of his short black hair. His warm, dark eyes and milk-coffee colored skin, and when he smiled, those dang dimples!
She fortified herself, calling forth every molecule of professionalism.
His expression twisted indiscernibly as his gaze moved from her pouffed-up hair, across her corseted bodice, along her netted legs, down to her high-heeled shoes, then back to her face.
"Rosa?"

Private Investigator Rosa Reed has finally accepted that her girlhood romance with Detective Miguel Belmonte has no hope of being rekindled, but when his actress girlfriend gets embroiled in a murder on her movie set, it's more than a movie schedule that's upsetting. Can Rosa put aside matters of the heart long enough to help Miguel solve the case?
